ArjoHuntleigh Flowtron Hydroven 3 Instructions for Use 510933EN_01 and Service Manual SER0014; Flowtron Hydroven 12 Instructions for Use 316933EN_01 and Service Manual SER0010. Identify the exact pump before applying variant-specific checks.
Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status
ArjoHuntleigh recommends that both the Flowtron Hydroven 3 and Flowtron Hydroven 12 pumps be serviced every 12 months by an ArjoHuntleigh-authorized service agent. Both are described as maintenance-free or virtually maintenance-free between service periods. Routine inspection includes the electrical connections and mains power cable; Hydroven 3 also explicitly lists its tubeset and connectors, while Hydroven 12 lists garment wear, tears, zips, fasteners, and internal pneumatic connections.
Both pumps have a published expected service life of seven years when regularly serviced. A pump that has been dropped, immersed, or otherwise abnormally treated must be returned to an authorized service center. Internal repair, calibration, and safety-related service remain governed by the applicable controlled service manual. Any alternative interval belongs under the facility's approved AEM program.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure
1. Verify Identity and Configuration
Action: Record asset tag, serial number, exact Hydroven 3 or Hydroven 12 model, part number, line voltage/frequency, department, garments, inserts, tubeset, connectors, and manual revisions.
Expected outcome: The pump matches CMMS and the correct variant-specific documents and accessories are identified.
2. Review History and Expected Service Life
Action: Review annual-service records, pressure complaints, alarms, intermittent operation, cord or tubing damage, repairs, electrical-safety results, drops, liquid exposure, and prior decontamination. Compare manufacture/in-service history with the published seven-year expected service life.
Expected outcome: All due work and abnormal treatment are identified; a dropped or immersed pump is routed to an authorized service center.
3. Decontaminate Before Inspection
Action: Disconnect mains power. Clean exposed pump surfaces with a cloth moistened with neutral detergent and water. Prevent liquid pooling and do not spray the pump or immerse electrical parts or the tubeset. Clean garments under their instructions.
Expected outcome: The pump and reusable accessories are clean, dry, and safe to inspect without liquid intrusion.
4. Inspect Pump Exterior, Controls, and Labels
Action: Inspect the fire-retardant enclosure, seams, handle, feet, switches, knobs, buttons, displays/gauge, indicator lenses, air outlets, connector covers, fasteners, product label, safety symbols, and serial label for damage, looseness, contamination, or unauthorized modification.
Expected outcome: The enclosure, controls, connectors, and identification are complete, secure, legible, and undamaged.
5. Inspect Electrical Connections and Power Cable
Action: Inspect the entire mains cable, plug, strain relief, inlet, switch, and accessible connections for excessive wear, cuts, exposed conductors, bent pins, looseness, discoloration, overheating, or contamination.
Expected outcome: All electrical connections and the power cable are intact and safe.
6. Inspect Tubeset and Pump Connectors
Action: Inspect tubing and connectors for cuts, cracks, kinks, obstruction, contamination, leakage, deformation, insecure engagement, or damaged snap-lock/polarizing features. On Hydroven 12, inspect the unused-connector rubber cover.
Expected outcome: Pneumatic paths are clean, open, secure, correctly oriented, and leak free.
7. Inspect Garments and Inserts
Action: Inspect compatible garments and inserts for wear, tears, damaged or insecure zips/fasteners, contamination, incorrect size/type, damaged chambers, loose tubing, and insecure internal pneumatic connections.
Expected outcome: Only compatible, intact, clean garments and inserts remain available for use.
8. Verify Ratings and Safety Classification
Action: Confirm the label matches the available mains supply and identifies Class II double insulation, Type BF applied-part protection, IPX0 liquid-ingress rating, and continuous operation. Record the exact variant ratings.
Expected outcome: Safety classification and supply ratings are legible and appropriate for the test location.
9. Set Up a No-Patient Functional Test
Action: Connect known-good manufacturer-compatible garments or approved service fixtures. Position the pump securely on a flat surface and route the cable and tubing clear of trip, strangulation, entrapment, and moving-equipment hazards. Never perform PM with a patient connected.
Expected outcome: The correct test configuration is secure, unobstructed, and ready for operation.
10. Verify Power-Up and Basic Operation
Action: Energize the pump using the normal operator sequence. Confirm reliable power-up, normal motor/compressor sound, stable controls and indications, inflation without abnormal vibration or odor, and normal shutdown.
Expected outcome: The pump starts, operates, and stops consistently with no electrical or mechanical fault.
11. Test Hydroven 3 Cycle and Alternation
Action: For Hydroven 3 only, connect two compatible garments and observe the automatic timed cycle. Verify the garments inflate alternately and a complete cycle is approximately three minutes: 90 seconds inflation followed by 90 seconds deflation.
Expected outcome: Alternation is correct and cycle timing is consistent with the published 90-second inflation / 90-second deflation sequence.
12. Test Hydroven 3 Pressure and Single-Garment Detection
Action: Confirm smooth control and stable gauge response across the published 30–100 mmHg range. Verify pressure accuracy to the ±5% specification only with the calibrated standard and SER0014 method. Then connect one garment to either port and confirm automatic single-garment operation.
Expected outcome: Pressure behavior and authorized accuracy verification pass, and either outlet correctly supports one-garment operation.
13. Test Hydroven 12 Self-Test and Operating States
Action: For Hydroven 12 only, apply mains power and confirm the short self-test completes into Standby with stored settings displayed. Verify Run starts therapy, and confirm Sleep indication after the manufacturer-described idle period or using the controlled service method.
Expected outcome: Self-test, Standby, Run, and Sleep states and indicators operate correctly without an alarm.
14. Test Hydroven 12 Controls, Displays, and Lockout
Action: Verify button confirmation beeps, mode selection, pressure display and 5 mmHg adjustment, therapy-setting selection, inflate/deflate time adjustment, treatment duration, and the pressure and therapy-setting lockout/unlock sequences.
Expected outcome: Controls, displays, stored settings, indicators, and lockouts respond correctly and consistently.
15. Test Hydroven 12 Modes and Pressure Limits
Action: With compatible service fixtures, exercise Sequential, Wave, and LymphAssist modes and applicable linked modes. Confirm settings do not exceed the published ranges: Sequential 15–120 mmHg, Wave 15–100 mmHg, and LymphAssist 15–40 mmHg. Verify accuracy to the published ±5% specification only under SER0010.
Expected outcome: Available modes sequence normally, selection indicators are correct, and controlled pressure verification passes.
16. Test Hydroven 12 Garment Connections and Completion
Action: Verify two compatible garments connected to the upper/lower polarized connectors inflate together at the same pressure. For one garment, use the upper connector and secure the lower rubber cover. Start and stop a short no-patient test; confirm deflation completes, both displays return to zero, and five completion beeps sound.
Expected outcome: One- and two-garment configurations operate correctly, connectors remain secure, and the stop/completion sequence passes.
17. Verify Alarm and Fault Handling
Action: Confirm there is no Hydroven 12 F alarm or other persistent fault. Test alarms only through the authorized SER0010 procedure; do not create an internal fault. If an F alarm occurs, verify the pump stops, the audible warning sounds, the F message appears, and the self-test reset behaves as documented.
Expected outcome: No unresolved alarm remains; any repeated F alarm causes removal from service and qualified repair.
18. Complete Annual Authorized Service
Action: At least every 12 months, have an ArjoHuntleigh-authorized service agent complete all applicable SER0014 or SER0010 preventive-maintenance, pressure, performance, calibration, internal inspection, and parts-replacement requirements.
Expected outcome: Annual authorized service is complete and traceable for the exact Hydroven variant.
19. Perform Electrical Safety Testing
Action: Qualified personnel shall perform the Class II, Type BF electrical-safety tests required by the applicable service manual, facility policy, and adopted standard. Record analyzer identification, test mode, current controlled limits, and measured leakage/applied-part results.
Expected outcome: All applicable electrical-safety measurements meet the governing limits.
20. Final Clean, Restore, and Document
Action: Disconnect power, complete compatible disinfection, dry thoroughly, restore the approved cable/tubeset/accessories, repeat startup and no-patient operation, apply the PM label, and document readings, timing, parts, corrective actions, life review, and disposition.
Expected outcome: The Hydroven pump is clean, complete, fully functional, and returned to service or clearly removed from service.
Electrical Safety Testing
Flowtron Hydroven 3 and Hydroven 12 pumps are mains-powered Class II, double-insulated, Type BF medical electrical equipment. Perform leakage and applied-part testing under the current SER0014 or SER0010 procedure and the facility's adopted standard. The public IFUs do not publish routine analyzer acceptance limits, so this page does not invent them. Do not apply a Class I protective-earth resistance requirement to these double-insulated pumps.
