Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status

Arjo’s dedicated schedule separates customer and qualified-service actions and assigns tasks before every use, every week, every 12 months, and every 2 years. It includes the lift, manual/powered DPS and loop spreader bars, stretchers, slings, battery, and charger. Safety-related maintenance must be performed by qualified service personnel with the correct documentation and tools.

Manufacturer-listed time items include recharging the battery for at least 15 hours once every 7 days and replacing both lift straps every 2 years when used, or immediately if either strap is worn or damaged. Annual qualified-service checks include the automatic cut-out, immediate stop, system-failure wind-down, scale accuracy when fitted, full lift-strap inspection, torque checks, jib force/clearance, leg width, mast sliders, jib rollers, guide blocks, combi attachment, and usage counter. Never reset the usage counter until all scheduled maintenance needs have been addressed.

If a facility performs this PM at a different interval or changes the listed activities, that should be handled under the facility’s approved AEM program, risk assessment, maintenance history, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure

1. Verify Identity and Configuration

Action: Record asset number, Maxi Move Series model, serial number, lift/leg version, safe working load, spreader bar or stretcher type, powered DPS, scale, battery, charger, and manual revisions.

Expected outcome: The checklist and specifications match the lift.

2. Review History and Control the Work Area

Action: Review faults, repairs, overloads, falls, collisions, battery issues, and prior strap replacement. Remove the lift from patient use and clean it according to the Operating Instructions before service.

Expected outcome: Hazards and unresolved history are identified.

3. Inspect Sling Attachment Points and Labels

Action: Before use, inspect every sling attachment point for damage and verify instruction/safety labels are attached and readable.

Expected outcome: No damaged attachment point or missing/unreadable critical label.

4. Inspect Spreader Bars and Attachment Locks

Action: For the installed manual/powered DPS, loop bar, or stretcher, inspect external parts, friction discs/bushings, leaf spring, locking clip, plastic latch, pivot hardware, and attachment security.

Expected outcome: The correct attachment locks positively without damage or excessive wear.

5. Verify Spreader-Bar Friction, Where Applicable

Action: After checking or replacing friction discs/bushings, reset the assembly and verify the handle supports a 5.4 kg (12 lb) load. Power a powered unit smoothly through its full range.

Expected outcome: Friction and powered movement meet the schedule.

6. Inspect Slings and Stretchers

Action: Inspect sling fabric, seams, straps, loops/clips, and fitted stretcher components for wear, cuts, fraying, damage, contamination, or illegible identification.

Expected outcome: Only compatible, intact Arjo patient-support components remain in service.

7. Inspect Battery and Charger

Action: Check battery condition/charge. Examine the charger, connectors, cables, plug, and casing for looseness, cuts, or damage.

Expected outcome: Battery is serviceable and charger has no damage; do not use a damaged charger.

8. Complete Weekly Battery Charge

Action: Recharge the battery for at least 15 hours once every 7 days using the Operating Instructions.

Expected outcome: Weekly charging is complete and documented.

9. Test Full Lift Range and Controls

Action: Operate lifting/lowering through the full range from both the control panel and handset.

Expected outcome: Normal, smooth motion from both control locations without binding or unexpected stopping.

10. Inspect Exposed Lift Straps

Action: With the jib fully lowered, inspect exposed straps on both sides of the mast for cuts, fraying, deformation, or damage.

Expected outcome: Both straps are intact; withdraw the lift immediately if either is damaged.

11. Test Chassis Legs, Handset, and Hardware

Action: Open/close the chassis legs through full travel. Inspect handset/cable, fittings, fasteners, mast/base connection, covers, and external hardware.

Expected outcome: Smooth leg travel, intact controls, and secure hardware.

12. Inspect Castors, Brakes, Surfaces, and Labels

Action: Confirm all castors rotate freely, mounting pins are tight, treads are sound, and both rear brakes lock. Inspect patient-contact areas for cracks, sharp edges, damage, or unhygienic surfaces and recheck labels.

Expected outcome: Safe mobility, braking, surfaces, and identification.

13. Test Automatic Cut-Out

Action: With the jib above its lowest position, command Down while supporting the jib upward for about 5 seconds; test from handset and control panel.

Expected outcome: The motor stops while the jib is supported and the jib remains in position when the button is released.

14. Test Immediate Stop

Action: Operate lift/jib motion and press Stop; reset and repeat while operating the chassis legs.

Expected outcome: Each powered movement stops immediately and normal operation returns only after reset.

15. Test System-Failure Wind-Down

Action: Using the manufacturer procedure, raise the red emergency lever, remove the locking pin, turn the handle clockwise, then reinstall the pin and close the lever.

Expected outcome: The jib lowers freely and the mechanism is restored correctly.

16. Verify Scale, If Fitted

Action: Check scale accuracy and recalibrate when required using the approved procedure/equipment. Apply jurisdictional reinspection and logbook rules when applicable.

Expected outcome: The fitted scale passes and required records are complete.

17. Inspect Full Lift-Strap Length and Two-Year Interval

Action: Inspect both straps over their entire length. Replace both every 2 years when used and replace immediately for any earlier wear/damage; lubricate the two top strap rollers as directed.

Expected outcome: Matched serviceable straps with documented replacement date.

18. Perform Manufacturer Torque Checks

Action: Identify the leg model/material and verify: chassis-to-mast link 48–52 N·m; chassis leg pivots 20–25 N·m; aluminium-leg castors 15–20 N·m; steel-leg castors 35–40 N·m; extra-low-leg castors 6–8 N·m.

Expected outcome: Applicable joints meet the correct torque range.

19. Check Jib and Chassis Geometry

Action: Verify 2.5 kg (4 lbf) force to rotate the jib pivot. Confirm the T-piece flange/jib gap is 1–2 mm; replace bushings if over 2 mm. With legs closed, verify center-to-center width is at least 650 mm for standard/low legs or 695 mm for extra-low legs.

Expected outcome: Pivot force, clearance, and leg width pass.

20. Service Wear Points, Final-Test, and Document

Action: Check/lubricate mast sliders; inspect four jib rollers, two guide blocks, combi T-piece/contacts, and T-bar bushing. Review/reset the usage counter only after all maintenance is addressed. Restore the lift, complete a full no-patient function/safety test, label, and document disposition.

Expected outcome: The lift is complete and safe or removed from service.

Electrical Safety Testing

The Arjo Maxi Move preventive-maintenance schedule does not specify leakage-current or protective-earth resistance measurements for the battery-powered lift or charger. Do not invent limits. Inspect the charger as listed and apply the current charger instructions and facility electrical-safety policy if additional testing is required.

Use the manufacturer service documentation, facility policy, and approved AEM program to determine the final PM interval and return-to-service requirements. Never test or service the lift with a patient attached.
