Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status
Check the tank whenever solution is changed and clean it as needed with water and a nonabrasive cloth. Branson suggests the glass-slide cavitation test monthly, while noting frequency depends on use. The manual does not list one universal scheduled-PM interval, so use a facility-approved interval for other checks under the approved AEM program, risk assessment, maintenance history, and applicable requirements.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure
1. Verify Identification
Action: Record asset, model/series, serial, rating, heater, drain, and accessories; confirm manual applicability.
Expected outcome: Identity and configuration match.
2. Review History
Action: Review performance, heat, controls, drain, noise, GFI, overheat, ingress, and repair history.
Expected outcome: Unresolved problems are identified.
3. Establish Safe Condition
Action: Remove from use, switch off, unplug, cool, drain per waste policy, and dry spills. Never disassemble.
Expected outcome: Shock, burn, chemical, and ultrasonic hazards are controlled.
4. Inspect Housing and Installation
Action: Check enclosure, feet, vents, cover, labels, clearance, stability, corrosion, cracks, and intrusion.
Expected outcome: Unit is intact, ventilated, and dry.
5. Inspect Cord and Grounding
Action: Check cord, inlet, plug, ground pin, strain relief, rating, and receptacle.
Expected outcome: Mains components are intact and correct.
6. Inspect Tank
Action: Inspect tank, bottom, seams, level mark, pitting, erosion, dents, residue, and contamination.
Expected outcome: Tank is intact and clean.
7. Inspect Basket, Tray, and Cover
Action: Verify fit/condition, no bottom contact, and at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) clearance beneath receptacles.
Expected outcome: Load support protects transducers.
8. Inspect Drain
Action: Check fitted valve, adapter, hose, threads, seal, leakage, blockage, and operation.
Expected outcome: Drain works without leak or obstruction.
9. Clean Tank
Action: On solution change, clean as needed with water/nonabrasive cloth. Never use flammable/explosive solutions, mineral acids, or chlorine bleach.
Expected outcome: Tank is clean without chemical damage.
10. Fill Correctly
Action: While unplugged and with accessories installed, fill with warm tap water/compatible solution to within 3/8 inch (1 cm) of operating line.
Expected outcome: Correct level protects heater/transducers.
11. Test Controls
Action: Test M/MH switches/timer or CPX/CPXH keypad, display, timer, power levels, modes, indicators, and standby.
Expected outcome: Controls operate consistently.
12. Degas Solution
Action: Run prescribed degas operation for 5-10 minutes.
Expected outcome: Solution is degassed for repeatable testing.
13. Test Timed Ultrasonics
Action: Run a documented cycle; verify start, stable activity, countdown, and stop.
Expected outcome: Timed sonics completes normally.
14. Test Continuous Mode
Action: Where fitted, verify continuous/constant sonics and stop control; do not use Degas for performance testing.
Expected outcome: Selected mode works correctly.
15. Test Heater
Action: On MH/CPXH, verify selection, indication, warm-up, and reference temperature. Never exceed 70°C (158°F).
Expected outcome: Heater and sensor respond normally.
16. Verify CPXH Temperature Functions
Action: Compare displayed/actual temperature and calibrate only per manual; do not force an overtemperature event.
Expected outcome: Temperature criteria pass without Err/alarm.
17. Prepare Glass-Slide Test
Action: Prepare fresh 1% solution at 49-60°C, correct level, degas 5-10 minutes, wet slide, and draw a pencil X.
Expected outcome: Repeatable test setup is achieved.
18. Perform Glass-Slide Test
Action: Hold frosted end vertically centered and activate Timed/Constant Sonics. All lead must be removed within 10 seconds.
Expected outcome: Cavitation is acceptable.
19. Perform Electrical Safety
Action: Test per rating/manual/policy. For applicable 220/230 V C/E units with MOVs, use Branson's 250 V DC insulation-test recommendation, not 500 V DC.
Expected outcome: Approved criteria pass.
20. Restore and Document
Action: Drain/unplug as required, clean/dry, restore accessories, repeat operation, and document.
Expected outcome: Unit is complete, safe, and ready.
Electrical Safety Testing
The manual calls for user-performed PAT/insulation testing and warns that MOVs in applicable 220/230 V C/E units can fail a 500 V DC test; Branson recommends 250 V DC. It gives no universal leakage or ground-resistance limit. Record analyzer, test voltage, standard/limits, ground, leakage, insulation, and pass/fail.
Pass / Fail Criteria
Pass
- Structure, tank, drain, accessories, cord/ground, controls, modes, heater where fitted, and electrical safety pass
- All pencil lead is removed within 10 seconds
- No leak, fault, overheat, or Err condition remains
Remove From Service
- Tank integrity, cord/ground, drain, control, heater, display, or electrical safety fails
- Cavitation fails, prohibited chemical damage or fluid intrusion exists, or dry/low-level damage is suspected
- Authorized repair or final verification remains incomplete; do not open the unit
Copy/Paste CMMS Work Order Procedure
Use the current manufacturer manual and facility-approved AEM program to determine the final PM interval. Never operate dry, immerse/disassemble the unit, use prohibited chemistry, obstruct vents, or place loads on the tank bottom.
