Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status
The Powerheart G5 automatically tests its battery, pads, and electronics daily. The weekly test adds a partial charge of the high-voltage electronics; the monthly test adds a full-energy charge. A subset of tests also runs whenever the lid closes.
The manual says to periodically inspect Rescue Ready status, battery, prompts, display, pads, service beep, LEDs, buttons, and case, but does not assign these hands-on checks a calendar interval. Set the scheduled interval through the facility's approved AEM program. The manual provides no routine analyzer-based energy test, numerical output tolerance, or user calibration procedure.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure
1. Verify Identification and Configuration
Action: Verify asset tag, serial, model, location, history, language configuration, and whether the AED is semi-automatic or fully automatic.
Expected outcome: Device and configuration match CMMS and AED-program records.
2. Review History
Action: Check for use, falls, abnormal temperature, beeping, red Rescue Ready status, battery/pad alerts, or service messages.
Expected outcome: No unaddressed event affects readiness. Send a potentially fall-damaged unit to authorized service.
3. Inspect the AED and Storage
Action: Inspect case, lid, hinges, latch, display, windows, pad connector, battery compartment and accessible contacts, labels, case, and cabinet for cracks, stress, liquid, corrosion, contamination, loose parts, or missing accessories. Do not open the AED housing.
Expected outcome: AED is intact, clean, accessible, and secure.
4. Check Rescue Ready Status
Action: With the lid closed, inspect the Rescue Ready indicator and listen for recurring beeps.
Expected outcome: Indicator is green and no service beep is present.
5. Check Battery
Action: Open the lid, inspect the battery indicator, and confirm a secure compatible XBTAED001 battery. Replace it for a red indicator or low/extremely-low warning, then close the lid.
Expected outcome: No battery warning remains and Rescue Ready returns to green after the self-test.
6. Check Prompts and Display
Action: Open the lid, listen for startup prompts, and confirm readable matching text. Close the lid and verify prompts stop.
Expected outcome: Audio and display operate together and Rescue Ready returns to green.
7. Check LEDs and Buttons
Action: Open the lid and verify brief illumination of the 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% battery LEDs, pads LED, service LED, and both function-button LEDs. Within 15 seconds, press each function button and verify illumination. On semi-automatic units, also test the Shock button and LED; mark this not applicable on fully automatic units without that button.
Expected outcome: All applicable indicators and controls respond.
8. Inspect Pads
Action: Confirm compatible adult pads are connected, sealed, undamaged, and in date, with expiration visible through the lid. Replace opened, used, expired, damaged, or rejected pads. Store pediatric pads according to their instructions and do not pre-connect unless current manufacturer instructions permit it.
Expected outcome: Correct adult pads are ready for use.
9. Test Pads Detection and Service Beep
Action: Open the lid, disconnect and remove the pads, then close the lid. Confirm Rescue Ready turns red and the AED beeps regularly. Reopen it and confirm the pads LED is lit. Reconnect and restore the sealed pads, close the lid, and keep expiration visible.
Expected outcome: Disconnection produces the red indication, beep, and pads LED; reconnection clears the condition and Rescue Ready returns to green.
10. Review Diagnostic Mode When Indicated
Action: If not Rescue Ready, hold both display buttons for three seconds. Replace extremely-low batteries and expired/used pads; correct temperature conditions. Remove from service for SERVICE REQUIRED / CONTACT TECH SUPPORT. Refer MAINTENANCE REQUIRED / CONTACT TECH SUPPORT before closing PM as ready.
Expected outcome: No unresolved diagnostic or service condition remains.
11. Clean
Action: Wipe the case using a cloth dampened with soapy water, denatured ethanol, or 91% isopropyl alcohol; dry it. Do not spray, pour, submerge, or sterilize.
Expected outcome: AED is clean and dry without liquid intrusion.
12. Final Readiness
Action: Restore compatible battery, connected in-date pads, and accessories. Close the lid and allow the self-test to finish.
Expected outcome: Rescue Ready is green, no recurring beep is present, and the AED is stocked and accessible.
Electrical Safety Testing
The Powerheart G5 is powered by a replaceable nonrechargeable battery with no routine AC-mains or protective-earth connection. Ground resistance and mains touch/chassis leakage are not applicable. Inspect accessible battery contacts, but do not disassemble the AED. It has no user-serviceable internal components.
Pass / Fail Criteria
Pass
- Housing, display, connector, battery area, labels, storage, and accessories pass inspection
- Battery is acceptable and sealed in-date adult pads are connected
- Prompts, display, applicable LEDs, buttons, pads detection, and service beep pass
- No unresolved diagnostic, service, temperature, battery, or pad condition remains
- Final Rescue Ready is green without a recurring beep
Remove From Service
- Rescue Ready stays red or beeping continues after correct restoration
- Service Required or a red service indicator is active
- Battery or pads are unacceptable or unrecognized
- Any prompt, display, control, indicator, pads detection, or beep test fails
- Damage, liquid, corrosion, a damaging fall, or unresolved maintenance condition could affect operation
