Defibtech DDU-100 Series AED User Manual, DAC-A580-EN-DF, for DDU-100 and DDU-120 units with software version 3.2 or later and the required rear label.
Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status
The AED performs automatic daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly self-tests. It also performs a battery-insertion test and a power-on self-test whenever it is turned on. The Active Status Indicator (ASI) should flash green when the unit is ready.
Check the ASI daily. Monthly, inspect the AED and accessories and verify the pad and battery expiration dates. After each use, complete the post-use checks and manual self-test. Perform a manual self-test after a drop, mishandling, or suspected abuse. Follow the facility's approved AEM program for any additional scheduled interval.

Required Tools and Equipment
- Clean soft cloths
- Approved cleaner: soapy water, ammonia-based cleaner, hydrogen peroxide, 70% isopropyl alcohol, or household bleach diluted to 30 mL per liter of water
- Compatible in-date Defibtech battery pack and pads if replacement is needed
- Facility-required PPE
No defibrillator analyzer or electrical safety analyzer is required by the reviewed user-manual maintenance procedure.
Step-by-Step PM Procedure
1. Verify Identification and Applicability
Action: Verify asset tag, serial number, model, location, and CMMS record. Confirm the rear unit label and software applicability specified by the referenced manual.
Expected outcome: Device identity is correct and the manual applies to the inspected unit.
2. Review History
Action: Review use since the last inspection, rescue events, drops, mishandling, water exposure, abnormal temperature, beeping, red ASI, and reported faults.
Expected outcome: No unaddressed event or condition affects readiness. A dropped, mishandled, or abused unit receives a manual self-test.
3. Check Active Status Indicator
Action: With the AED off, observe the ASI and listen for alert beeps.
Expected outcome: ASI flashes green and no unresolved alert is present. A flashing red ASI or alert beep is investigated before return to service.
4. Inspect AED and Storage
Action: Inspect the enclosure, rubberized surfaces, handle, ON/OFF and SHOCK controls as applicable, speaker, indicator windows, pad connector socket, battery opening and accessible contacts, labels, carrying case, cabinet, and mounting hardware. Check for cracks, contamination, corrosion, liquid, looseness, or other damage. Do not open the housing.
Expected outcome: AED is intact, clean, accessible, and securely stored.
5. Inspect Battery Pack
Action: Confirm the battery pack is the correct Defibtech type, securely seated, undamaged, and within its labeled expiration or install-by date. If fitted, inspect the user-replaceable ASI 9 V battery according to the battery-pack instructions.
Expected outcome: Battery pack is compatible, secure, in date, and free of damage or leakage.
6. Inspect Electrode Pads
Action: Confirm the correct pads are connected, sealed, undamaged, and within the printed expiration date. Verify the cable is routed for immediate access. Replace pads that are opened, used, expired, damaged, or rejected by the AED.
Expected outcome: One compatible sealed set of in-date pads is connected and ready.
7. Inspect Accessories
Action: Verify the rescue kit and facility-required accessories are present, clean, sealed where applicable, and in date. After a rescue, confirm the data card or event data has been handled according to facility policy before clearing or replacing media.
Expected outcome: Required accessories are complete and ready, and rescue data is preserved when applicable.
8. Clean the AED
Action: Leave the battery installed. Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth dampened with an approved cleaner. Do not immerse the AED, allow liquid into openings, or use abrasive materials. Ensure the pad connector socket is completely dry.
Expected outcome: Exterior is clean and dry without liquid intrusion or surface damage.
9. Perform Power-On Self-Test
Action: Turn the AED on and follow the voice and visual prompts without connecting it to a person. Confirm the speaker, indicators, and applicable controls operate; then turn it off.
Expected outcome: The power-on self-test completes without a service indication and the prompts and controls operate normally.
10. Perform Manual Self-Test
Action: With the AED off, press and hold the ON/OFF button for approximately five seconds until the manual self-test begins, then release it and follow all prompts. On DDU-100 units, press the flashing SHOCK button when instructed. DDU-120 fully automatic units complete the applicable sequence without a user shock-button press. Keep everyone clear; the AED internally charges and discharges test energy without delivering voltage at the pads.
Expected outcome: The AED announces AED OK and reports no fault. Note that the test consumes approximately the energy of one shock from the battery.
11. Restore After Use or Testing
Action: After a clinical use, remove the battery as directed, preserve or replace the data card according to policy, reinstall the battery and allow its insertion test to complete, connect a new sealed set of pads, and complete the manual self-test. After routine testing, verify all accessories and pads remain correctly stored.
Expected outcome: Used consumables are replaced, required data is preserved, and no test fault remains.
12. Final Readiness
Action: Turn the AED off, confirm the battery and pads are secure, close the case or cabinet, and observe the ASI.
Expected outcome: ASI flashes green, no alert beep is present, and the AED is stocked, accessible, and ready for service.
Electrical Safety Testing
The Defibtech Lifeline AED Series is powered by a replaceable battery pack and has no routine AC-mains or protective-earth connection. Ground resistance and mains leakage tests are not applicable. Inspect accessible battery contacts, but do not disassemble the AED; there are no user-serviceable internal parts.

Remove From Service
- ASI remains red or an alert beep continues after correct restoration
- Manual self-test does not announce AED OK or reports a fault
- Battery or pads are expired, damaged, incompatible, unavailable, or unrecognized
- Any prompt, indicator, control, connector, or enclosure condition could impair operation
- Damage, liquid intrusion, corrosion, or an unresolved post-use condition is present
