Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status
ZOLL provides a daily checklist and calls for inspection before deployment and after use/cleaning. The charger performs a battery Performance Test on every insertion and a Test-Cycle every tenth charge/discharge cycle or at least every 30 days; allow up to 12 hours. Clean the charger exterior at least monthly. ZOLL recommends battery replacement after three years and disables batteries at five years. Never use a battery not charged within the previous 60 days.
Perform only ZOLL-documented operator work; route internal repair, calibration, and undocumented compression testing to authorized service. Interval changes belong under the facility's approved AEM program, risk assessment, maintenance history, and applicable requirements.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure
1. Verify Identification
Action: Record platform, battery, charger, LifeBand, accessories, identifiers, software/revision, location, and manuals.
Expected outcome: Exact configuration is verified.
2. Review History
Action: Review use, faults, compression interruptions, runtime, charging, drops, contamination, repairs, and recalls.
Expected outcome: Unresolved risks are identified.
3. Remove From Clinical Availability
Action: Tag out the system and follow infection-control procedures.
Expected outcome: Device cannot be deployed during PM.
4. Inspect Platform Structure
Action: Inspect platform, back surface, handles, feet, seams, labels, covers, and fasteners for damage, contamination, or ingress.
Expected outcome: Platform is intact and cleanable.
5. Inspect Drive-Shaft Area
Action: With power removed, inspect accessible drive interface for debris, damage, and obstruction. Do not open the platform.
Expected outcome: Interface is unobstructed.
6. Inspect Controls and Display
Action: Inspect buttons, display, speaker openings, and labels.
Expected outcome: Interfaces are intact and legible.
7. Inspect Battery Compartment
Action: Inspect bay, rails, connector, finger latch, main latch, and seals. Confirm the battery sits flush and the red strip is hidden.
Expected outcome: Battery installs and locks securely.
8. Inspect LifeBand
Action: Verify approval, expiration/status, installation, band/cover, stitching, and fasteners; reject cuts, tears, kinks, or contamination.
Expected outcome: Compression assembly is complete and undamaged.
9. Inspect Case and Accessories
Action: Inspect case, straps, handles, closures, positioning components, and approved accessories.
Expected outcome: Kit is complete and transport-ready.
10. Inspect Each Battery
Action: Inspect housing, connector, rails, status button, labels/date, cracks, swelling, leakage, corrosion, and heat/impact damage.
Expected outcome: No physical defect exists.
11. Check Battery Status and Age
Action: Press Status Check. Green is ready; yellow needs charging; flashing red is failed. Plan replacement after three years and remove at five years.
Expected outcome: Only charged, serviceable batteries remain.
12. Verify Rotation and Storage
Action: Confirm rotation, charge before use, no storage in an unpowered charger, no more than six months outside a powered charger, and charge within 60 days.
Expected outcome: Storage meets ZOLL limits.
13. Inspect Battery Charger
Action: Inspect housing, bays, connectors, rails, cord, plug, inlet, fuses, ventilation, labels, and indicators.
Expected outcome: Charger is intact, dry, and ventilated.
14. Verify Charger Status and Performance Test
Action: Insert each battery and observe status. Ready green means fully charged and passed; persistent Fail or Idle requires action.
Expected outcome: Every battery is recognized and reaches Ready.
15. Verify Test-Cycle Currency
Action: Confirm Test-Cycle every tenth cycle or at least every 30 days. Do not remove during the cycle; allow up to 12 hours.
Expected outcome: Each battery completes and returns to Ready.
16. Clean Platform and Power System
Action: Clean only by ZOLL methods. Clean charger exterior monthly with a dry/slightly water-damp lint-free cloth; prevent ingress and dry fully.
Expected outcome: Equipment is clean, dry, and undamaged.
17. Run Platform Power-On Self-Test
Action: Install a Ready battery, power on, observe display/indicators, and listen for prompts/tones; record faults.
Expected outcome: Self-test completes without unresolved fault.
18. Verify Controls and Indications
Action: Without a patient, follow the guide to test buttons, menus, configured mode selection, mute, display, and prompts. Do not run unsupported compression tests.
Expected outcome: Interfaces respond correctly.
19. Complete Daily Readiness Checklist
Action: Verify clean platform, correct undamaged LifeBand, charged primary/spare batteries, complete case/accessories, successful self-test, and deployment configuration.
Expected outcome: Every daily item passes.
20. Restore and Document
Action: Pack per policy, rotate batteries, keep charger powered/ventilated, and record battery dates/status/Test-Cycles, faults, cleaning, parts, and disposition.
Expected outcome: System is Code-Ready or clearly removed from service.
Electrical Safety Testing
The platform is battery powered and the guides do not prescribe routine biomedical leakage/ground-resistance testing for it. Inspect the AC charger and cord; perform only facility-approved testing appropriate to its classification and ZOLL instructions. Do not invent limits or test internally.
Pass / Fail Criteria
Pass
- Platform, LifeBand, controls, battery bay, batteries, charger, accessories, self-test, indicators, Test-Cycle currency, and Daily Checklist pass
- Primary and spare batteries are Ready and within age/charge limits
Remove From Service
- Damage, contamination, expired/damaged LifeBand, failed self-test/control, persistent fault, liquid ingress, or incomplete kit
- Battery flashing red/no-status failure, five-year age, no charge within 60 days, or failed Test-Cycle
- Charger Fail/Idle/self-test fault or required ZOLL service
Copy/Paste CMMS Work Order Procedure
Use current ZOLL manuals and the Daily Checklist. Do not perform undocumented compression tests or internal repairs. A failed self-test, LifeBand defect, or failed/expired battery makes the system unavailable.
