What This Page Explains
Biomed resumes can be weirdly hard to write.

Why Biomed Resumes Are Hard to Write
Biomed work is broad.
One day you may be replacing a broken NIBP connector on a patient monitor.
The next day you may be chasing a telemetry communication problem, checking an electrical safety failure, coordinating vendor service on imaging equipment, documenting a PM failure, or explaining to a department why an accessory issue is not a device failure.
The hard part is that all of that can get flattened into vague resume language.

The Simple Version
A good biomed resume should answer five basic questions:
- What equipment do you work on?
- What kind of problems do you solve?
- What level of risk or clinical environment do you support?
- What systems, software, documentation, or compliance work are you responsible for?
- What makes your experience stronger than a generic repair statement?
In plain English:
Do not just say you fix medical equipment. Show the equipment, the troubleshooting, the documentation, the clinical impact, and the systems you support.
What Hiring Managers Need to See
A hiring manager, supervisor, recruiter, or hospital HR screen may be trying to figure out whether you can support the equipment and workflow they actually have.
They may look for:
- BMET, clinical engineering, HTM, or biomedical equipment experience
- Preventive maintenance experience
- Corrective maintenance and troubleshooting experience
- Electrical safety testing experience
- CMMS or work order documentation experience
- Experience with common hospital equipment types

Equipment scope matters.

That tells a much better story.
Show Risk and Patient Care Awareness
Biomed is not just repair work.
It happens in a patient care environment.
Your resume should show that you understand clinical risk, downtime, patient safety, and when equipment should not be returned to use.
Examples:
- Removed unsafe or unreliable equipment from service pending repair or evaluation
- Performed functional checks before returning equipment to clinical use
- Communicated equipment status and downtime concerns to clinical departments
- Escalated safety-related issues according to department policy
- Supported high-use clinical areas where equipment uptime mattered
That kind of language shows judgment, not just tool use.
Show Systems, Software, and Integration Work
Modern biomed work increasingly overlaps with IT, networking, integration, and software-supported equipment.
If you support any of that, say it clearly.
Examples may include:

- Telemetry systems
- Central stations

- Middleware or interface troubleshooting

Show Documentation and Compliance
Documentation is a major part of biomed work.
If your work orders are clear, complete, and useful, that is a skill.
Resume language can include:
- Maintained service history in a CMMS
- Documented complaints, findings, corrective actions, parts, test results, and return-to-service checks
- Completed scheduled PM documentation according to department policy
- Recorded failed PMs, repair findings, and escalation details
- Supported audit readiness through accurate equipment service records
Documentation is not just paperwork.
Good documentation shows what happened, what was found, what was corrected, and why the equipment was safe to return to use.

Vendor coordination is not just “called vendor.”

Project work can separate your resume from someone who only lists daily repair tasks.
Examples:
- Equipment replacements

- Department moves

- Recall or field correction support

- Standardization efforts
- Accessory or cable management improvements

A project bullet should show what changed because of your work.
Example:

Certifications, degrees, manufacturer training, and relevant coursework can help, especially when they match the role you are applying for.
Include items such as:

- Manufacturer service training
- Electrical safety training

Do not bury certifications at the bottom if they are important for the job.
Make them easy to find.

If you are new to biomed, you may not have a long list of hospital equipment experience yet.
