1. Protect Patient Care

Do not continue using a probe with a damaged connector, cable, strain relief, acoustic lens, or evidence of fluid intrusion.

2. Confirm the Exact Reported Condition
Determine whether:
- The transducer is not listed
- The system reports no connected probe
- Recognition is intermittent
- Recognition changes when the cable is moved
- One probe fails while other probes work
- All probes fail on the same connection
- The problem began after cleaning, transport, or probe change
Expected outcome: The failure is reproduced and isolated as closely as possible to a specific probe, connection, or system-wide condition.
3. Inspect the Transducer Externally
Inspect the entire accessible probe assembly, including:
- Acoustic lens
- Probe housing
- Cable
- Strain reliefs
- Connector housing
- Connector contacts or pins where safely visible
Look for cuts, crushing, exposed conductors, cracks, contamination, bent contacts, liquid intrusion, or other damage.

4. Inspect the System Probe Connection

9. Check Basic Probe Selection and System Configuration
Confirm that the system is operating in an appropriate mode and that the connected transducer is normally supported by the configured system.
Do not enter unauthorized service menus or make undocumented configuration changes.
Expected outcome: No basic selection or configuration condition is preventing recognition.
10. Verify Imaging After Recognition Is Restored
Once the probe is recognized:
- Confirm the correct probe identification
- Generate an image on an appropriate test object or phantom
- Gently position the cable through normal ranges without stressing it
- Watch for intermittent disconnects or image dropout
Expected outcome: Probe recognition and imaging remain stable. Troubleshooting can stop when the connection is reliable and the probe passes applicable functional inspection.

If connector seating, visible condition, known-good probe comparison, system restart, and basic configuration have been ruled out, the issue may involve an internal probe-interface connection, system communication path, internal connector assembly, software/configuration problem, or probe electronics.
The affected probe or system should be:
- Removed from service as appropriate

- Sent for repair or bench evaluation

- Repaired or configured only by qualified personnel
Do not open the transducer or perform internal connector or board-level repair without authorized procedures.
