Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
1. Protect the Patient
Do not remove, reseat, or troubleshoot the expiratory cassette while a patient depends on the ventilator. Move the patient to another verified ventilator or alternate ventilation method first.

2. Confirm the Reported Condition
Power the Servo-air in a controlled test setting and verify whether the cassette is actually not recognized, will not seat, or produces a related startup or pre-use check failure.

3. Remove and Inspect the Cassette
Remove the expiratory cassette using normal approved handling. Inspect for:
- Cracks or broken housing
- Warping
- Contamination
- Excess moisture where it should not be present
- Damaged interfaces
- Foreign material
Do not disassemble the cassette beyond approved handling.
Expected outcome: The cassette is visibly intact and suitable for reinsertion. A damaged cassette should be replaced rather than forced into the ventilator.
4. Inspect the Cassette Receptacle
With the unit safely powered as appropriate for inspection, examine the external cassette mounting area for debris, fluid, bent external features, or an obstruction preventing full insertion.
Do not probe internal contacts or disassemble the ventilator.
Expected outcome: The receptacle is clean, unobstructed, and capable of accepting the cassette normally.
5. Reseat the Cassette
Install the cassette evenly and completely without excessive force. Verify that it reaches its normal seated position.
Do not force a cassette that binds or does not align normally.
Expected outcome: The cassette seats securely and the ventilator recognizes it. If recognition is restored and subsequent pre-use testing passes, troubleshooting can stop.
6. Verify Cassette Compatibility and Processing Status
Confirm the cassette is intended for the Servo-air and has been processed, cleaned, dried, and prepared according to facility and manufacturer requirements.
A cassette that is still wet, improperly assembled after processing, or incompatible should not be used.
Expected outcome: A compatible, correctly prepared cassette is installed.
7. Substitute a Known-Good Cassette
Install a known-good compatible expiratory cassette when available.
Expected outcome: If the known-good cassette is recognized normally, the original cassette is the likely external cause and should be removed from use. If neither cassette is recognized, stop repeated substitutions and escalate.
8. Repeat the Pre-Use Check
Perform the complete required pre-use check after the cassette is properly recognized.
Expected outcome: The cassette remains recognized and the ventilator completes the required checks. Troubleshooting can stop after final verification.
9. Escalate Persistent Recognition Failure
If multiple known-good compatible cassettes fail to be recognized or cannot seat despite a clean and unobstructed receptacle, do not attempt deeper disassembly or adjustment.
Expected outcome: The ventilator remains removed from service for qualified evaluation.
If the Problem Persists
Common external causes have been ruled out. Persistent failure may involve the cassette interface, sensing mechanism, internal electronics, mechanical alignment, or another service-level condition.
Remove the ventilator from service, label it Out of Service, and send it for repair or bench evaluation. Use appropriate Getinge documentation and approved test equipment. Repairs or internal adjustments should be performed only by qualified personnel.
Complete pre-use, ventilation, alarm, and applicable performance testing before returning the device to service.
