Ensure Patient Safety First
Remove the stretcher from patient use before troubleshooting if there is any concern with stability, rolling control, frame damage, or mattress support integrity.
Expected outcome: The patient is transferred to another safe stretcher or bed before inspection continues.
If this resolves the immediate safety risk, stop and document the action.
Verify the Reported Problem
Ask staff what was noticed: squeaking, grinding, wobbling, hard steering, uneven rolling, frame flexing, mattress sagging, or visible damage. Roll the stretcher in a clear area and listen for the reported noise.

Perform a Visual Safety Inspection
