1. Ensure Patient Safety and Communication Continuity

Notify the responsible clinical staff that the bed-to-room communication path is unreliable. Provide an alternate verified nurse-call device or another approved method for requesting assistance. Move the patient to another verified bed when the failed function is required for safe care.

Determine whether:

The patient or caregiver nurse-call control does not activate a call.

6. Determine Whether the Failure Follows the Bed or Room

Test the affected bed in a known-good compatible room connection. When practical, connect a verified compatible bed to the original room port.

Coordinate with nursing, facilities, or information technology personnel before moving equipment or changing room connections.

Do not enter unauthorized service menus or change facility communication settings without approved documentation and authorization.

Expected outcome: No user-accessible lockout or configuration condition is blocking communication. If correcting an approved setting restores operation, repeat the functional test and stop troubleshooting.

8. Verify the Complete Communication Path

With the alternate call method still available, perform repeated tests from each applicable bed control location.

Confirm:

The room station receives the call.

The appropriate indicators activate.
