Panda and Giraffe Warmers Service Manual, M1128921 Revision J, May 2017
Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status
Applicability
This procedure applies to the Panda iRes Warmer, Panda Freestanding Warmer, and Panda Wall Mount Warmer unless a step is identified as configuration-specific.
Scale-related requirements apply only to a Panda iRes Warmer equipped with an optional in-bed scale. Resuscitation system maintenance applies only when the applicable system is installed; the manual identifies the optional resuscitation assembly for bedded and freestanding models, not the wall mount model.
Manufacturer-Listed Annual Activities
Perform electrical safety checks as described in service manual section 2.2.3.
If present, calibrate the scale as described in section 3.1. For the Panda family, this applies to a Panda iRes Warmer equipped with the optional in-bed scale.
If a resuscitation system is installed, perform the resuscitation system service checkout as described in the separate Resuscitation Systems Service Manual.
Manufacturer-Listed Two-Year Activities
Replace the lithium-ion battery as described in service manual section 5.4.3.
If the applicable resuscitation/blender system is installed, perform complete blender maintenance as described in the separate Resuscitation Systems Service Manual.

Scale calibration test weight for equipped Panda iRes models: 5 kg Certified Test Weight, GE part number 6600-0209-800.
Masimo SET 1 SpO2 electrical leakage test cable: 2006036-001.

Nellcor SpO2 electrical leakage test cable: M1237129.
Post-Repair Safety Inspection Requirement
After completing a repair, perform the Checkout Procedure, a final electrical safety check, and a leakage current test. If any checkout step fails, remove the unit from service and repair it before clinical use.
AEM Note
If a facility performs this PM at a different interval or changes the listed activities, that should be handled under the facility's approved AEM program, risk assessment, maintenance history, and applicable regulatory requirements.
What This PM Procedure Covers
This procedure covers annual electrical safety testing; annual scale calibration and verification for equipped Panda iRes models; annual resuscitation system checkout reference for equipped Panda iRes or Freestanding models; two-year lithium-ion battery replacement; two-year blender maintenance reference when applicable; SpO2 patient lead leakage testing when installed; configuration-specific documentation; and post-repair safety inspection documentation.
Required Tools and Equipment
Approved electrical safety analyzer.
5 kg Certified Test Weight, GE part number 6600-0209-800, for Panda iRes models with a scale installed.
Applicable SpO2 electrical leakage test cable, if SpO2 is installed: Masimo SET 1 cable 2006036-001; Masimo SET 2 cable M1230051; or Nellcor cable M1237129.
Small screwdriver for lithium-ion battery removal when performing the two-year battery replacement.
Tools and test equipment required by the separate Resuscitation Systems Service Manual when applicable.
Step-by-Step PM Procedure
1. Identify Panda Warmer Configuration and PM Scope
Identify the warmer as a Panda iRes Warmer, Panda Freestanding Warmer, or Panda Wall Mount Warmer.
Determine whether the unit is equipped with a scale, SpO2 module, resuscitation system, or blender requiring separate maintenance, and whether lithium-ion battery replacement is due at this service interval.
Inspect for obvious damage, missing components, damaged power cord, contamination, or any condition that would make continued testing or clinical use inappropriate.
Expected outcome: Correct configuration-specific PM activities are identified before testing begins.
2. Perform Annual Electrical Safety Testing
Using an approved electrical safety analyzer, perform ground continuity testing first, followed by leakage testing. Wait at least 30 seconds after power-on before taking leakage readings.
Ground Resistance Check
Measure between the ground pin of the line cord plug and exposed metal of the electronic enclosure.
Manufacturer limit: less than 0.2 Ω.

3. Perform SpO2 Patient Lead Leakage Testing, If Installed
If the Panda Warmer is equipped with an SpO2 module, use the applicable manufacturer-listed leakage test cable. Measure leakage between all SpO2 connector leads shorted together and ground after the required 30-second power-on stabilization period.

4. Calibrate and Verify the Scale, Panda iRes With Scale Only
Perform this step only on a Panda iRes Warmer equipped with the optional in-bed scale. Do not apply this step to Panda Freestanding or Panda Wall Mount units.
Use a 5 kg Certified Test Weight, GE part number 6600-0209-800.
Clear objects from the bed so only the mattress and clear plate remain on the scale. Turn the warmer off and ensure the bed is level. Enter Service Mode by powering on while holding the Help and Alarm Silence keys until two tones are heard. Select Scale Calibration, then Manual Calibration. Enter the gram value of the certified test weight. Follow the on-screen tare prompt. Apply the test weight to the center of the bed when prompted. Save the calibration if successful. Power cycle the unit. Verify scale accuracy using the certified test weight.

Displayed weight must equal the test weight within ±10 g.

5. Perform Resuscitation System Service Checkout, If Equipped
For an equipped Panda iRes Warmer or Panda Freestanding Warmer, perform the annual resuscitation system service checkout according to the applicable Resuscitation Systems Service Manual.
Expected outcome: Resuscitation system service checkout is completed and documented according to its applicable manual.
Not applicable to: Panda Wall Mount Warmer, based on the warmer manual identifying the optional resuscitation assembly for bedded and freestanding configurations only.
Important: The provided manual does not contain the separate resuscitation system checkout procedure or its pass/fail values.
6. Replace the Lithium-Ion Battery Every Two Years
When due, replace the lithium-ion battery as described in the service manual.
Disconnect power before accessing internal assemblies. For a Panda Wall Mount Warmer, remove the heater head from the wall bracket as instructed by the manual before accessing the enclosure. Open the electronic enclosure rear panel. Tilt the power board panel down to access the battery. Note battery polarity before removal. Use a small screwdriver to slide the old lithium-ion battery out of its holder. Install the new battery with the same polarity. Reassemble the unit.
Expected outcome: New lithium-ion battery is installed with correct polarity and the warmer is properly reassembled.
Why it matters: The lithium-ion battery supplies the power failure alarm and supports memory circuits during a power failure.
7. Perform Two-Year Blender Maintenance, If Applicable
For Panda iRes or Panda Freestanding units equipped with the applicable blender/resuscitation configuration, perform complete blender maintenance according to the separate Resuscitation Systems Service Manual.
Expected outcome: Blender maintenance is completed and documented under the applicable separate manual.
Not applicable to: Panda Wall Mount models unless separate manufacturer documentation establishes otherwise.
8. Complete Post-Repair Safety Inspection When Applicable
After repairs, including lithium-ion battery replacement performed under the repair procedure chapter, perform the applicable Checkout Procedure, final electrical safety testing, and leakage current testing.
Battery Replacement Verification
Record the current control mode and temperature settings. Wait one minute. Unplug the warmer from the wall outlet. Verify the power failure alarm sounds and the power failure indicator illuminates. Wait one to two minutes. Reconnect the warmer to the wall outlet. Verify the alarm cancels and the warmer returns to the previously displayed mode and temperature settings.
Expected outcome: The unit passes checkout, electrical safety, leakage current, and applicable power failure alarm/memory verification.
Note: If the power failure alarm is tested for the full 10-minute minimum operation period, operate the warmer for at least 2 hours to recharge the battery before patient use. The manual lists total recharge time as 10 hours.

Two-year battery and blender activities are completed when due. No unresolved unsafe condition remains.
Remove From Service
Remove the unit from service if electrical safety measurements exceed manufacturer-listed limits; Panda iRes scale calibration or required checkout fails; SpO2 patient lead leakage exceeds manufacturer-listed limits; required resuscitation or blender maintenance fails or cannot be completed; post-battery-replacement power failure alarm or memory restoration testing fails; any required post-repair checkout step fails; or the unit has damaged, missing, worn, distorted, or contaminated components affecting safe operation.
