Getinge Maquet Volista Maintenance Manual, NM 01780 EN 04, dated 2024-10-28; Getinge Volista Instructions for Use, IFU 01781 EN 20; and Getinge Surgical Lights Preventive Maintenance Wearing Parts Replacement Cycle, leaflet revision 02. Verify the installed lighthead, suspension, control, monitor/camera, battery-backup configuration, serial number, and current document revisions before service.
Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status
- Preventive maintenance and inspection: Every year.
- Daily user inspection: Check lighthead condition, rotation, drift, controls, handles, and configured backup system according to the current IFU.
- Brake screws: Replace every year using the correct configuration-specific parts and procedure; do not merely retighten a loosened screw.
- Backup batteries: Replace every three years where installed.
- Suspension mounting screws, adapter screws, bushing mounting screws, and spring-arm safety segments: Replace at the applicable six- or ten-year interval for the installed suspension family.
During warranty, Getinge requires maintenance and inspection by Getinge or a Getinge-approved dealer. After warranty, the work may also be performed by a hospital technician trained by Getinge. A different interval requires an approved AEM program, risk assessment, service history, applicable regulations, and current Getinge instructions.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure
1. Remove the System From Clinical Use
Action: Coordinate room access, confirm no procedure is underway, lower equipment to a safe service position, remove sterile handles and detachable accessories, and lock out power before exposed electrical or suspension work.
Expected outcome: The Volista system is safely positioned, clean, and controlled for service.
2. Verify Identity and Complete Configuration
Action: Record system, suspension, lighthead, equipment, monitor-mount, camera, wall-control, touchscreen, backup-power, and accessory part/serial numbers. Identify Volista 400/600, StandOP/Access, fork, arm, and ceiling-tube families.
Expected outcome: The physical system matches the CMMS record and the correct checklist, parts, torque values, replacement intervals, optical limits, and test points are identified.
3. Review History and Scheduled Replacements
Action: Review installation date, prior PM, repairs, impacts, drift or lighting complaints, control/camera issues, battery results, field actions, and replacement history for brake screws, batteries, mounting screws, bushings, and safety segments.
Expected outcome: All annual, three-year, six-year, ten-year, condition-based, and post-repair work is identified.
4. Inspect the Ceiling Interface and Suspension
Action: Inspect ceiling cover/flange, tube, suspension arms, adapters, bushings, safety rings/segments, mounting hardware, covers, caps, flanges, tabs, cable paths, grounds, and clearances. Do not disturb structural fasteners without the current Getinge procedure and required support.
Expected outcome: Retention components are present, secure, correctly positioned, and free of looseness, cracking, corrosion, deformation, or unsafe cable wear.
5. Inspect Spring Arms, Forks, Stops, and Brakes
Action: Move each axis through its range. Verify stops, smooth travel, balance, position holding, and absence of drift, binding, excessive play, noise, collision, or cable tension. Inspect covers and sliding rings. Replace annual brake screws with the correct new Getinge parts and adjust by the applicable procedure.
Expected outcome: Every axis moves smoothly, stops correctly, holds position, and has correct brake and retention hardware.
6. Inspect Lightheads and Handles
Action: Inspect surfaces, underside, silicone covers, seals, top cover, keypad, LED lenses, fork attachment, handle mount, removable/sterilizable handles, quick-lock devices, and accessories for damage, looseness, contamination, fluid entry, or failed locking.
Expected outcome: Lightheads and handles are clean, intact, firmly attached, and free of infection-control, falling-part, electrical, or handling hazards.
7. Inspect Monitor and Camera Equipment
Action: When installed, inspect monitor-mount stops, VESA attachment, flanges, caps, cable guides, protective sheath/clearance, slip ring, rear box, power supply, Wi-Fi receiver, camera mount, cabling, and grounds.
Expected outcome: Optional equipment is secure, correctly routed, grounded, and able to travel without cable strain.
8. Verify LEDs and Lighthead Controls
Action: Restore power safely. Verify every LED segment, lighthead keypad function, intensity step, field control, color-temperature selection, Boost, ambient light, AIM/LMD, and other installed functions.
Expected outcome: All LEDs illuminate evenly and every configured mode responds without flicker, dropout, fault, or unintended change.
9. Verify Wall and Touchscreen Controls
Action: Test every wall-mounted keypad and touchscreen function, lighthead selection, intensity/field controls, indicators, and fault messages.
Expected outcome: Controls communicate with the correct lighthead/equipment and every function operates correctly.
10. Verify Camera and Video Functions
Action: When installed, verify camera power, selection, image, focus, orientation, approved controls, zoom, receiver/transmitter, and output display.
Expected outcome: Video and zoom operate correctly and the image is stable and correctly oriented.
11. Test Backup Power
Action: When installed, verify charge indication, switch from AC to battery with lightheads operating, then restore AC. Perform the current Getinge battery test and replace batteries at three years or earlier for failure, damage, heat, swelling, leakage, or inadequate capacity.
Expected outcome: Transfer is correct, illumination remains available, and battery age/capacity are acceptable.
12. Perform the Optical Assessment
Action: Place the calibrated luxmeter at field center exactly one metre from each lighthead. Use small-field mode with dimmer at maximum or Boost as directed. Eliminate ambient-light error and record each reading.
Manufacturer-listed PM range: Volista 400 and 600 Ec Max must be greater than 91 klx and less than 160 klx. IEC 60601-2-41 permits 40–160 klx; Getinge's PM minimum uses nominal value minus 30%.
Expected outcome: Each lighthead is within the Getinge PM range and produces a stable, even, centered field.
13. Perform IEC 62353 Electrical Safety Testing
Action: With an IEC 62353 tester capable of a 10 A earth-resistance measurement, test between manual-specified flange/earth reference and applicable lighthead connector, equipment, monitor-mount, or camera-mount points.
Expected outcome: Each listed protective-earth path is ≤300 mΩ. Attach analyzer records when available.
14. Restore and Complete Final Functional Test
Action: Reinstall covers/caps/accessories, remove tools/supports, clean approved surfaces, restore power, and repeat travel, position holding, LEDs, keypads, touchscreen, camera, battery transfer, and final room-ready checks.
Expected outcome: The complete installation is secure, electrically safe, functional, and returned to service or clearly removed.
Electrical Safety Testing
Getinge specifies IEC 62353 protective-earth resistance testing with a 10 A-capable tester. Use only exact current manual test points for the installed suspension, lighthead, monitor/camera mount, and equipment.
