Manual Reference

HeartSine samaritan PAD SAM 350P / SAM 360P / SAM 450P User Manual, H032-019-613-0, and Maintenance Supplement M0000019001-AA, March 2024. Use the current country- and model-specific manual for the device being maintained.

Manufacturer Recommendation / AEM Status

HeartSine specifies a weekly status-indicator check and monthly checks for physical damage and Pad-Pak expiration. The device performs its automatic weekly self-test at midnight GMT every Sunday. A successful self-test returns the indicator to a green flash every 5 to 10 seconds.

The March 2024 maintenance supplement adds a powered voice-prompt and final green-status check once every three months as part of the monthly maintenance program. Do not turn the AED on repeatedly or unnecessarily because doing so depletes Pad-Pak battery capacity. After every rescue use, event information must be managed as required, the used Pad-Pak replaced, the device inspected and cleaned, and the green ready indication confirmed.

Important test limitation: HeartSine states that these AEDs cannot be tested using ordinary industry-standard simulators or manikins. Contact HeartSine or an authorized distributor if simulator/manikin testing is required. The AED has no user-serviceable internal parts and must not be opened or repaired locally. A facility AEM program must not substitute an unsupported analyzer test, shock test, internal adjustment, or altered interval for these manufacturer instructions.

What This PM Procedure Covers

Required Tools and Equipment

A standard defibrillator analyzer, ECG simulator, test load, manikin, leakage analyzer, and internal-service tools are not required for this manufacturer-directed procedure. Do not connect unsupported test equipment.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure

1. Verify Identity and Model

Action: Record asset tag, serial number, exact model, location, Pad-Pak type and lot/expiration, accessories, and manual revision. Identify the SAM 350P as semi-automatic, the SAM 360P as fully automatic, or the SAM 450P as semi-automatic with CPR Rate Advisor.

Expected outcome: Equipment identity matches the CMMS record and the maintainer understands the model-specific shock behavior before any powered check.

2. Review History, Registration, and Safety Notices

Action: Review rescue-use, failed-ready-indicator, warning-message, beeping, Pad-Pak, damage, contamination, storage, and prior-service history. Confirm device/location registration information is current and review applicable HeartSine/Stryker field actions using the serial number.

Expected outcome: Outstanding use, service, registration, or field-action requirements are identified before return to service.

3. Verify the Weekly Status Check

Action: Without powering on the AED, observe the status indicator. Confirm it flashes green every 5 to 10 seconds. A red flash, continuous beep, or absent indication means a problem has been detected and requires troubleshooting or removal from service.

Expected outcome: The status indicator flashes green at the normal interval with no beeping.

4. Confirm Automatic Self-Test Readiness

Action: Verify the weekly inspection log shows continued green status following the device's automatic Sunday midnight-GMT self-test. Do not attempt to force or reproduce the automatic self-test with unsupported equipment.

Expected outcome: Readiness remained green after the automatic self-test and no unresolved failure is documented.

5. Inspect the Enclosure and Controls

Action: Inspect the housing, status window, speaker openings, On/Off button, Shock button on the 350P/450P, visual indicators, data-port cover, Pad-Pak bay, labels, fasteners, seams, and carry case. Look for cracks, impact, contamination, liquid entry, looseness, fading, missing parts, or unauthorized repair.

Expected outcome: The AED is complete, legible, clean, secure, and free of damage that could affect emergency operation.

6. Inspect the Installed Pad-Pak

Action: Confirm the correct Adult Pad-Pak or Pediatric-Pak is fully seated with both tabs engaged. Check the printed expiration date, package/electrode drawer condition, green pull tab, connector area, and evidence of opening, use, leakage, swelling, damage, or contamination. Do not pull the green tab during routine maintenance.

Expected outcome: The Pad-Pak is correct, unopened, undamaged, fully engaged, and not expired or approaching expiration beyond the facility's replacement window.

7. Verify Accessories and Deployment Readiness

Action: Confirm the assigned spare Pad-Pak, pediatric capability when required, scissors, razor, gloves, barrier device, towel, instructions, seals, signage, and carry-case contents under facility policy. Check expiration and condition of each time-limited item.

Expected outcome: Required accessories are present, accessible, usable, and within expiration.

8. Verify Storage and Accessibility

Action: Confirm the AED is visible, audible, unobstructed, secure, clean, and dry. Verify storage remains within the manual's 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F) range and that the device is not exposed to immersion, concentrated heat, direct weather, or an inaccessible locked location.

Expected outcome: The AED can be retrieved immediately and its storage environment protects readiness and Pad-Pak life.

9. Clean When Required

Action: Wipe the AED with a soft cloth lightly dampened with soapy water or 70% isopropyl alcohol. Do not immerse it or use abrasive materials, cleaners, or solvents. Keep liquid out of openings and allow the device to dry completely.

Expected outcome: The AED is visibly clean and dry without finish, label, enclosure, or fluid-ingress damage.

10. Perform the Three-Month Voice-Prompt Check

Action: Once every three months, leave the AED in its case, press On/Off once, and listen without following the rescue instructions. Confirm an audible normal opening prompt such as “Adult patient” and/or “Call for medical assistance.” Be prepared for the SAM 360P's fully automatic design, but do not attach electrodes or create a simulated patient circuit.

Expected outcome: Normal voice prompts are clear and audible with no warning message.

11. Shut Down and Confirm Final Ready Status

Action: Press On/Off once to turn the AED off. Confirm the status indicator returns to flashing green. Do not repeat the power cycle merely to consume-test the Pad-Pak battery.

Expected outcome: Shutdown completes and the green status indicator resumes its normal flash.

12. Apply the Simulator and Internal-Service Restrictions

Action: Do not connect a standard ECG/defibrillator analyzer, test load, simulator, or manikin; do not attempt a charge/shock test; and do not open the AED. If a functional test beyond the published readiness and voice-prompt checks is required, contact HeartSine or an authorized distributor for the supported method.

Expected outcome: No unsupported test, energy discharge, internal service, or alteration is performed.

13. Complete Post-Use Restoration When Applicable

Action: After a rescue, download and protect event information when required using authorized Saver EVO tools, remove the used Pad-Pak, inspect and clean the AED, install a new in-date Pad-Pak until both tabs click, confirm the flashing-green indicator, replenish accessories, and report the use as directed by HeartSine/facility policy.

Expected outcome: Event data is controlled, the used Pad-Pak is replaced, and the complete AED station is restored to ready condition.

14. Document and Return to Service

Action: Record the weekly/monthly/quarterly activity performed, model, serial number, status indication, physical inspection, Pad-Pak details, storage, cleaning, voice-prompt result or N/A, final green indication, field-action review, replacements, corrective work, and disposition.

Expected outcome: The AED is traceable and either returned to service in flashing-green ready condition or clearly removed from service with backup coverage arranged.

Electrical Safety Testing

The Samaritan PAD is a self-contained, non-rechargeable Pad-Pak-powered AED with no mains connection during storage or use. Routine protective-earth and mains-leakage testing are therefore not applicable. The user manual prohibits opening or repairing the AED, and it does not authorize routine connection to standard defibrillator analyzers or simulators. Document electrical safety as N/A for this manufacturer-directed maintenance procedure; use HeartSine/authorized support if additional functional testing is required.

Pass / Fail Criteria

Remove From Service

Copy/Paste CMMS Work Order Procedure
