Hard standard maintenance

The service guide lists Hard Standard Strips as PN 95002262. In-use strips are designed for use for not more than 30 days, then discarded. Calibration is not required. Unused strips have indefinite shelf life if kept in original packaging and protected from excessive moisture and light. Each day a hard standard strip is used, inspect it for damage and dirt. Replace if damaged or dirty.

Post-repair safety inspection / release requirement

The service guide states that before returning the analyzer to the customer, Service Release Testing must be performed. It also states the release procedures apply before releasing any Clinitek Advantus analyzer back to a customer or into an exchange pool, even if no repair was made.

Step-by-Step PM Procedure

1. Confirm Device Status

Action: Confirm the analyzer is not processing patient specimens. Notify lab staff before powering down, opening covers, or running service tests.

Expected outcome: No patient testing is interrupted or reported from a device under maintenance.

2. Review Manufacturer-Listed Interval

Action: Document that the provided service guide does not specify a recurring scheduled PM interval. Document whether the PM interval is facility policy, AEM-based, post-repair, or service-event based.

Expected outcome: PM frequency is audit-clear and not falsely attributed to the manufacturer.

3. Visual Inspection

Action: Inspect the analyzer exterior, fixed platform area, push bar, printer area, display, cables, connectors, power cord, labels, and case condition.

Check for cracked or damaged housing, missing or loose screws, sharp edges on the outer case, stained or contaminated components, damaged fixed platform, damaged push bar, damaged moving table, damaged hold-down components, loose or improperly routed cables, and damaged power cord or plug.

Expected outcome: Analyzer is clean, intact, and safe to operate.

4. Clean Analyzer

Action: Clean analyzer surfaces and user-accessible areas according to the Operator’s Guide maintenance instructions. Pay attention to areas repeatedly exposed to reagent, including the push bar and fixed platform assembly.

Expected outcome: No visible reagent buildup, dirt, or contamination remains.

5. Lubricate Push Bar Slide Arm Shaft

Action: Turn analyzer off. Remove the push bar, fixed platform, hold-down plate, and moving table as described in the Operator’s Guide daily cleaning procedure. Clean the push bar slide arm shaft and lower guide with alcohol. Apply a thin coat of Lubriplate 630-AA multipurpose grease to the shaft and guide. Reinstall the tables and push bar. Move the slide arm several times to spread the lubricant. Power analyzer on.

Expected outcome: Push bar movement is smooth and free of sticking or binding.

Manufacturer-listed lubricant: Lubriplate 630-AA only. The service guide states other lubricants are not supported because their effect on parts is unknown.

6. Exercise All Motions

Action: Enter Factory Test Mode. Select INSTRUMENT TEST then EXERCISE ALL MOTIONS. Run 10 cycles.

Expected outcome: All 10 cycles complete without displayed errors.

7. Sensor Status Check

Action: In Factory Test Mode, access the Sensor Status screen. With the fixed platform and moving table installed and the analyzer in Ready state, verify sensor status.

Expected outcome from service guide: Table in Place: YES; Push Bar Home: YES; Transport Home: NO.

8. Strip Detector Test

Action: In Factory Test Mode, select TEST STRIP DETECTOR. Place a Multistix 10 SG reagent strip on the fixed platform. Move the strip across valid placement positions. Verify the analyzer beeps when it detects the strip. Select PRINT DETECTOR SETUP VALUES.

Expected outcome: Five LEDs flash, and detector setup values print between 10 and 254.

Fail condition: If the analyzer reports 0 or 255, the analyzer fails the test and should be rejected or removed from service for troubleshooting.

9. Strip Centering Test

Action: Install the floating rail hold-down and fixed platform. In Factory Test Mode, select SETUP STRIP CENTERING. Place a Hard Standard Strip on the load zone and select OK.

Expected outcome: Analyzer advances the strip, calculates a new strip centering value, stores it in memory, and reports an acceptable range of 4 to 40.

10. Strip Walk Test

Action: Confirm the fixed platform has the normal customer hold-down installed. In Factory Test Mode, select STRIP WALK TEST. Load 10 dry Multistix 10 SG strips when prompted. Review the internal printer result.

Expected outcome: Use the service guide criteria. New drive housing assembly: Strip Walk Test = A required. Used drive housing assembly: Strip Walk Test = A or B acceptable. Strip Walk Test = C fails for a used assembly. If the analyzer fails, realign the horizontal plate or replace the drive housing.

11. Internal Printer Test

Action: In Factory Test Mode, select TEST PRINTERS then INSTRUMENT PRINTER TEST.

Expected outcome: Printer produces the test pattern clearly without missing, faded, or distorted print.

12. Touchscreen Test

Action: In Factory Test Mode, select TEST TOUCHSCREEN. Touch each displayed box.

Expected outcome: Each touched box displays a check mark.

13. Display Test

Action: In Factory Test Mode, select TEST DISPLAY.

Expected outcome: All pixels highlight during the display test.

14. Barcode / Keyboard Port Test, If Used

Action: If the analyzer uses the PS/2 barcode reader or keyboard, connect the barcode reader and run the barcode reader port test. Scan a known barcode.

Expected outcome: Displayed data matches the barcode.

15. Computer Port Test, If Used

Action: If the serial computer port is used, install the DB9 loopback connector and run the computer port test.

Expected outcome: Data sent matches data received.

16. Ethernet Port Test, If Used

Action: If Ethernet communication is used, install the RJ45 loopback connector and run the Ethernet port test.

Expected outcome: Data sent matches data received.

17. Cycle Readheads Test

Action: In Factory Test Mode, access CYCLE READHEADS.

Expected outcome: No error code is displayed.

18. Cycle Table Test

Action: In Factory Test Mode, select CYCLE TABLE.

Expected outcome: No error code is displayed.

19. Cycle Pusher Arm Test

Action: In Factory Test Mode, select CYCLE PUSH BAR.

Expected outcome: No error code is displayed.

20. Instrument Release Test, If Performing Post-Repair / Release Testing

Action: Use the required release test software, limits file, serial test cable, hard standard test strip, floating rail hold-down, thermal printer paper, and compatible PC. Run the Instrument Release Test and compare collected analyzer data to predefined limits.

Expected outcome: PC screen displays Pass.
